"What do you think a blind person can't do?"
This is the question that has challenged Randy from the moment he started to go blind in 1989. The question has motivated him, inspired him, frustrated him, pushed him harder than he ever would have thought he could endure, and made him realize that you truly don't need to see to have a vision -- and to make that vision a reality.
It's also the first question that Randy challenges kids with in his remarkable classroom presentations. For over 10 years, Randy has been visiting schools around New England, delivering his essential message to children of all ages: to believe in ability -- most importantly their own. He's passionate about inspiring and awakening young minds and souls to look past their own challenges to the possibilities that lie beyond. By prompting kids to think, "What can I accomplish?", he leads them to realize it's within their power to define this for themselves, and it's within themselves to embrace and achieve any goal.
Working with, inspiring and motivating kids is its own reward for Randy, and he is very pleased to offer talks at no cost to classrooms and youth organizations within reasonable travel distance from his base-camp in Southern New Hampshire. Randy specializes in grades 1 through 12, and has spoken to groups as small as 10 and as large as an assembly of 500. He customizes each talk for the age of the children and the needs of teachers and administrators.
Randy's presentations combine poignant personal experiences, fascinating facts, and themes of adventure and optimism to engage and captivate kids -- something that Quinn, Randy's Guide Dog, is also an expert at! Children connect with Randy and Quinn, and learn about the following topics in a way that is relevant and exciting to them.
- Ability awareness
- Blind awareness
- Guide dogs
- Setting goals
- Teamwork
- Problem solving
- Communication
- Believing in possibility
- Achievement through adversity
- Inspiration
Randy also accepts engagements to speak to kids outside Southern New Hampshire if reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed. He also looks forward to the day when 2020 Vision Quest sponsorship dollars will pay for his educational travel. If you or someone you know would like to fund a trip for Randy to speak at a school or youth program, please contact PR@2020VisionQuest.org, or call us at (888) 54-2020-1.
